Artist Statement
I love painting outdoors, enjoying all of the different seasons.  I begin with  small studies in oil color, by direct observation. Larger pieces can be started on site and moved to the studio. As the scale changes, the subject matter is more about the physicality and energy of the paint and less about landscape as “scenery”. My interest is the challenge of interpreting landscape into painted marks, shapes and color, but is arrived through the experience of standing in the field, marsh or woods.
Wolf Kahn: paintings “are the dramatic result of a real life experience.”
